How to play Bari Bari Reversi.
This is Reversi, also known as Othello, played on a board of 8 by 8 squares. Columns are named A to H from left to right, and rows 1 to 8 from top to bottom, so a square is named like "D4".
At the start, the four centre squares hold D4 white, E4 black, D5 black and E5 white. Black plays first.
You may only play on a square where you trap one or more of your opponent's discs between the disc you place and another of your own discs, in any straight line: across, down or diagonally. Every trapped disc turns to your colour. If you have nowhere to play you must pass and your opponent plays again. When neither player can move the game ends, and whoever has more discs wins.
Against the computer there are three levels. Beginner plays almost at random. Intermediate looks a few moves ahead and cares about the corners. Advanced searches deeply with alpha-beta pruning, weighing frontier discs and stable discs, and counts the discs exactly in the endgame.
In an online match you invite an opponent from the lobby and play one against one. Whoever sends the invitation plays black and moves first.
The board can be used entirely from the keyboard. Moving with the arrow keys reads out the square and what is on it, and says "you can play here" where a move is available. Press S at any time for the score and whose turn it is, or L for the list of playable squares. Press H during a game for the full list of key commands. You can also open the menu by pressing Enter twice in a row, or by double-clicking or double-tapping the board, in addition to Escape.
In the settings you can change the speech mode and speed, black and white mode, sound effects, selection support and the text size.
